Long-range inductive sensors ‘will revolutionise sector’

The German sensor-maker wenglor sensoric has announced a range of inductive sensors which, it claims, will revolutionise the sector. The sensors, which have switching distances up to three times longer than usual, can be mounted alongside each other without causing interference.

M12 versions of the sensors are available with sensing distances of up to 12mm – a capability which, according to wenglor, is “unmatched on the market to date”.

Some versions of the sensors incorporate an IO-Link interface which can connect them into networks and allow three different signals to be assigned to their outputs – NPN/PNO, NC/NO or error signals. This in, turn, means that fewer variants of the sensors are needed, reducing stockholding for users.

The use of a technology called weproTec (wenglor proximity technology) means that mounting distances between the sensors can be reduced by more than half, and in some cases, eliminated entirely.

Built-in diagnostics ensure that if a sensing coil is damaged, if a sensor’s internal temperature is too high, or if there is a short-circuit, this information is communicated to the controller and indicated by flashing LEDs.

Wenglor says that the extra functions have been integrated into the new sensors without any increases in price.
