Combined scope and data store can analyse drives and motors

Yokogawa Test & Measurement has added a new instrument to its ScopeCorder family of portable multi-channel data-acquisition recorders, which is faster and has more channels and data acquisition functions than earlier versions. The DL950 ScopeCorder provides detailed views of an application’s electrical and mechanical behaviour. Its uses include testing inverters, motors, robots, sensors and serial buses.

The instrument combines the high-speed sampling capabilities of an oscilloscope with the long-term data recording capabilities of a recorder. It can measure signals at high bit resolutions while securing data in harsh environments.

Compared to the previous DL850E model, the fourth-generation instrument can handle more data at faster sample rates and with longer recording times. It has a 200 megasample per second sample rate at 14-bit, compared to the DL850E’s 100 MS/s at 12-bit. This doubles the sample rate, and provides much more detail. The DL950 can run up to 32 isolated analogue channels at 10 MS/s, 16-bit, or up to 128 digital channels. The acquisition memory is up to 8Gpoint.

The price of the DL950 ScopeCorder is similar to that of its predecessor.

A dual capture function combines data recording with the sample speed and trigger capabilities of an oscilloscope. This allows users to analyse waveforms in detail while observing multi-channel measurements over longer periods. There are several options for acquiring and recording data: to the fast internal memory; to flash memory; to a 512GB internal SSD (which can store data for up to 50 days); or to a PC via standard or 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Using 10Gb Ethernet, data can be transferred to a PC 50 times faster than the previous model.

There is a choice of 21 input modules, including 12-, 14- and 16-bit isolation modules, universal voltage/temperature modules, acceleration/voltage modules, strain modules and frequency modules.

The DL950 has a 12.1-inch touchscreen which is bigger than before and reduces the need for hardware buttons. It can be controlled remotely, allowing home workers to perform tests away from laboratories. Touching an application icon brings up a graphical setup screen for the application.

Yokogawa has also announced an integrated software platform that synchronises data from several test instruments on one screen, giving a clearer picture of the timing of control signals and switching events and how products being tested react to them. The IS8000 platform can help to develop complex products such as inverters, which often need several instruments to capture all of the test data.

The software integrates timing, control, and data collection from several instruments using the IEEE 1588 PTP protocol, USB or Ethernet. Allowing instruments to work together in this way makes it easier to debug and analyse the data by viewing all measurements on one display.

The software can be used with the new ScopeCorder to capture rapidly-changing waveforms, and to store up to eight channels of data in real time when testing equipment such as motors and inverters. An IS8011/IS8012 package is available, allowing harmonic and flicker tests to be performed in accordance with the IEC 61000-3-2, 3-3, 3-11 and 3-12 standards, when used with a WT5000 power analyser.
