New-generation servodrives control up to three axes

23 October, 2020

The Austrian automation manufacturer Sigmatek has announced a new generation of compact multi-axis servodrives said to combine good performance with flexibility. The modular Dias MDD 2000 drives are available in one-, two- and three-axis versions in two frame sizes and power classes. They incorporate many safety functions as standard.

The drives can operate from single- or three-phase 230-480V AC supplies. A power supply, filter, brake resistor and DC-link circuit are standard and are all contained within the smaller (75 x 240 x 219mm) size 1 frame, which can deliver 4kW (3 x 5A rated or 15A peak). The larger size 2 frame (150 x 240 x 219mm) covers ratings up to 9kW (3 x 10A rated or 30A peak). Overload factors are up to 300%, and 62.5µs control cycle times are said to deliver good servo performance.

Modules combining a power supply and axis module (MDP 2000) can operate stand-alone or be installed in a network, with any number of MDD 2000 axis modules of either size. This simplifies the design of customised drives.

The modules can be connected quickly without tools using a stacking technology based on DC and bus connection blocks. This eliminates the need for complex wiring for power, DC-link couplings, and real-time Ethernet communications via the Varan bus.

In addition to the Safe Torque Off (STO) and Safe Stop 1 (SS1) safety functions, the servodrives include Safe Operating Stop (SOS), Safe Brake Control (SBC), as well as Safety Limited Speed (SLS) and support applications up to SIL 3, PL e, Cat 4.

A built-in Hiperface DSL digital motor feedback interface reduces wiring and start-up times. As well as this single-cable system, other encoder types are supported including EnDat 2.1 and 2.2, Hiperface, resolver, Sin/Cos, TTL, BiSS-C and Tamagawa.

A built-in autotuning function and a library of predefined motion software components reduce the time needed to design applications.
