B&R integrates ABB robots into its controls portfolio

22 November, 2019

At this month’s SPS automation show in Germany, B&R Automation is starting to move closer to ABB, which acquired the Austrian business in 2017. At SPS, it is demonstrating ABB robots as an integral aspect of its offering, eliminating the need for dedicated robot controllers, separate control cabinets and programming specialists.

B&R says that integrated portfolio will reduce complexity and optimise synchronisation between the products. It will also mean that machine-builders will now be able to buy their robots and machine control systems from a single source.

At SPS, B&R is also demonstrating a wide range of products that support the open, real-time OPC UA over TSN technology, claiming that these products –  which include PLCs, bus controllers, industrial PCs and Ethernet switches – will allow the creation of standardised networks for modular adaptive machines. A single interface will be able to exchange standardised data between all of the nodes in a network, making machines easier to develop and operate.
