Experience Centre shows transformative technologies

29 January, 2019

Siemens has refurbished a demonstration centre at its Manchester, UK, headquarters to create a “Digital Experience Centre” that illustrates how industrial companies can embark on a journey of digital transformation. The centre includes working examples of digital technologies which will help them to enhance productivity, implement flexible manufacturing, optimise performance and open up new business models.

For example, visitors can witness the merging of virtual and physical worlds in demonstrations of “digital twin” simulation technologies that cut costs and resources in design and engineering. Other technologies on show include augmented reality, 3D modelling, virtual reality, and Siemens’ Mindsphere IoT operating system for cloud applications.

The Mindsphere demonstration shows how simple, secure and encrypted connections from one machine to another can help to transform IoT data to deliver productive business results and to offer opportunities for product and business model innovation.

“Our new Digital Experience Centre provides a practical illustration of the technological possibilities available to industrial users who wish to start their digitalisation journeys,” says James Cottle, team leader of Siemens’ factory automation specialists. “We are already hosting many visitors from a variety of industrial sectors who are keen to see for themselves how existing and emerging digital technologies can help them tackle the challenges they face around performance optimisation, productivity and future proofing their operations.

Siemens’ new Digital Experience Centre will show visitors how digital technologies are transforming manufacturing

“Digitalisation is going to be the great enabler when it comes to transforming the UK’s industrial landscape and this new demonstration room is a key element of Siemens’ commitment to support manufacturers,” he adds. “It is now possible for businesses to come to Manchester and assess new digital technologies in a proactive and practical way before they have to commit any expenditure or resource.”
