Drive controllers reach the sixth generation

11 June, 2013

The German geared motor and drive systems manufacturer Stöber has expanded its modular drive and automation portfolio with a sixth generation of its drive controllers and motion controllers that use the Codesys v3 programming and controlling software. The two types of controller can be combined to create a drive controller that can be operated in a controller-based mode.

The SD6 drive controller comes in three sizes for currents from 3–20A. It is based on a 32-bit processor which reads data from an EnDat 2.2 encoder rapidly and precisely and can identify about 33 million positions per motor revolution. Stöber’s EZ series of servo-driven motors can be supplied with an EnDat 2.2 encoder, allowing them to be used with the SD6 controller to offer extremely high position accuracy, making normal reference runs unnecessary.

The compact, high-performance MC6 motion controller is available either as a control cabinet PC or as a touchscreen panel. It can be used as a motion controller or as a PLC, both programmed using Codesys.

Stöber says that the new products fuse drive controls in a modular software and hardware system. This offers new opportunities for optimising automation and robotic applications. It will allow applications with complex, rapid movement sequences to be realised quickly and reliably, with high precision.
